Hazel M. Lawson, 90 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.
Hazel was born on December 14, 1933. She is the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Gibson. Hazel earned her Associate’s degree in accounting and worked as an accountant for DEFAS in Columbus until 1982. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Zanesville. Hazel dedicated her life to ensuring her cherished family was well taken care of. She loved quilting, and would always share her work with her family as a token of her love. She also enjoyed playing cards, taking care of the flowers in her garden, baking, and most importantly watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
Hazel is survived by her three children, Michael (Sofia) Lawson, Sally (Mike) Leitenberger, and Pat (Cara) Lawson; her grandchildren, Amber Lawson, Ryan (Maureen) Leitenberger, Kyle (Courtney) Leitenberger, Abby (Chase) Wilson, Mckenzie Lawson, Riley Lawson, Angel Saique, Blaine Milam, Greyson Milam, Georgia (Austin) Dalrymple, and Giles Milam; her great-grandchildren, Jayce, Aubriana, Kathrynne, Andrew, Athena, Boone, Austin, and Callie; her brother, Richard (Linda) Gibson; as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved dog, Murphy.
In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Richard D. Lawson, who passed away January 24, 2005; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Jack) Billhymer.
Visitations will be 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Zanesville. Fr. Martin J. Ralko will officiate the service. Hazel will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Duncan Falls Cemetery.
